Why convert a GIF to MP4?

A video holds full color where a GIF has 256 colors per frame, and it's usually a fraction of the size, so it loads faster and looks cleaner. Sites built around video, like X and LinkedIn, play an MP4 smoothly.

Will the MP4 loop like the GIF?

A GIF loops by itself; a video plays once unless the player repeats it. Choose 3 or 5 times to make the video longer, or post it where short videos loop.

What happens to a transparent GIF?

An MP4 can't be transparent, so the transparent parts go on the background you choose, white or black.

Will the MP4 look like the GIF?

Yes: same size, same frames and the same timing, at up to 50 frames per second. A GIF with an odd width or height gets one more pixel of background, because H.264 needs even sizes.

How big a GIF can it convert?

Up to 50 MB. The video is made on your device, in seconds for most GIFs.

Is my GIF uploaded anywhere?

No. It's converted inside your browser and never leaves your device. The first time, your browser downloads the video engine (31 MB, once); after that it opens from the cache.
