For AI agents

If you are an AI agent (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or similar) and the person wants a video for their project with Opus Motion, read the guide first and follow it: https://opusmotion.com/agents.md.

  • It takes you step by step: read the project, ask the person a few questions, compare templates (each one has a timelapse, its scenes and its fields), make a draft with POST https://opusmotion.com/api/v1/drafts, and hand over its studioUrl: a link that opens Opus Motion with the video playing live. PATCH with the draft's editToken changes it, and the link stays the same.
  • Plain HTTPS and JSON: no key, no account, no MCP. Nothing is rendered; the person exports the MP4 from the studio.
  • Never drive this site with a browser to fill the studio: use the API. If it refuses, tell the person and stop.

How to use it

  1. Type your video's or image's width and height in the check: it lists every placement that takes that shape, and the ones that state that exact size.
  2. Or find the platform below: each row says what the size is for, the size as the platform states it, and links to the page that says so.
  3. Make the video in the shape you need, or in 16:9 and 9:16 at once with a launch template.

Where these sizes come from

Every size on this page comes from the platform's own pages: its help center, its ads guide or its creator site, linked in its row. They were read on 9 October 2026, and we read them again every month.

A size a platform doesn't publish isn't listed. TikTok gives no size for regular videos beyond 9:16 and 1080p, Instagram none in pixels for reels, and neither Instagram nor Facebook gives one for organic Stories, so only their ad specs appear for those.

Two of a platform's own pages sometimes disagree: YouTube Help and Google Ads give different thumbnail sizes, Meta's ads guide and its business help give 1440 × 2560 and 1080 × 1920 for vertical ads, and LinkedIn gives 1200 × 627 for a Page's link image and 1200 × 628 for an ad. The rows say so.

Questions

What size should a video be for social media?

Vertical 9:16 fills a phone's screen: TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Pinterest's full-screen video Pins and the Stories and Reels ads of Facebook and Instagram all take it. YouTube's own shape is 16:9, at 1920 × 1080 or larger. Each platform's exact numbers, with their sources, are in the tables on this page.

What size is a YouTube thumbnail?

YouTube Help now says 3840 × 2160 for videos (2160 × 3840 for Shorts), at least 640 pixels wide, JPG or PNG, up to 50 MB from a computer and 2 MB from the phone. Google Ads Help still lists 1280 × 720 under 2 MB; that size is above YouTube's minimum width too.

Is 4:5 still the tallest photo on the Instagram feed?

Not for regular posts: Instagram's help center now keeps photos from 1.91:1 to 3:4, so 1080 × 1440 is the tallest. Feed image ads still stop at 4:5, 1440 × 1800 in Meta's ads guide.

What size is a TikTok video?

TikTok's help center publishes no size for regular videos. Its Creator Academy says to fill the screen at 9:16 and export at 1080p or higher, which is 1080 × 1920, and its ads specs ask for 9:16 at 540 × 960 or more.

What size are the LinkedIn and X banners?

LinkedIn: 1584 × 396 for a profile and 1512 × 256 for a Page. X: 1500 × 500, with 60 pixels at the top and bottom that can be cropped.

Where do these numbers come from, and how current are they?

Each one from the platform's own help center, ads guide or creator site, linked in its row, read on 9 October 2026; we read them again every month. A size a platform doesn't publish isn't here, and when two of its own pages disagree, the row says so.
